...TOUCH ME IN THE MORNING... by Diana Ross
-----------------------------..............

*from 'Touch Me in the Morning' (1973)*

*CAPO 1st FRET*

(Original Key: C#)

Chorus 1:

Dm7/G Cadd9 Cmaj7 Fadd9
Touch me in the mor -ning,
Dm7 Cadd9 Cmaj7
 Then just walk a-way.
Dm7 Cadd9 Cmaj7 F
 We don't have to-mor -row,
    Fadd9 F Bb Dm7/G
But we had yester-day.

Verse 1:

C Cmaj7 C7
Hey... wasn't it me who said,
             Fmaj7 Dm7 Dm/G
That nothing good's gonna last for-ever?
C Cmaj7 C7
And wasn't it me who said,
              Fmaj7 F6
Let's just be glad for the time to-gether?

Bridge 1:

G/B
It must've been hard to tell me,
Bb
That you've given all you had to give.
G/B Bb
 I can understand you're feeling that way;
Everybody's got their life to live.

Break:

Fmaj7 G/B Em7 Am7 G
Well, I can say goodbye, in the cold morning light.
Fmaj7 G/B Em7 Am7 G
But I can't watch love die, in the warmth of the night.

F E7 Am
If I've got to be strong,
                 Am/G F E7 Am
Don't you know I need to have to-night when you're gone?
             Am/G F Em7
'Till you're gone, I need to lie here,
    G/F Dm7
And think about the last time that you'll...

Chorus 2:

Dm7/G Cadd9 Cmaj7 Fadd9
Touch me in the mor -ning,
Dm7 Cadd9 Cmaj7
 Then just close the door.
Dm7 Cadd9 Cmaj7
Leave me as you found me,
F Fadd9 F Bb Dm7/G
 Empty like be-fore...

Verse 2:

C Cmaj7 C7
 Hey... wasn't it yester-day,
           F Dm7 Dm7/G
We used to laugh at the wind be-hind us?
C Cmaj7 C7
 Didn't we run a-way,
              Fmaj7 F6
And hope that time wouldn't try to find us?

Bridge 1:

G/B
 Didn't we take each other,
Bb
To a place where no one's ever been?
G/B Bb
Yeah, I really need you near me to-night,
'Cos you'll never take me there again.

Break:

Fmaj7 G/B Em7 Am7 G
Let me watch you go, with the sun in my eyes.
Fmaj7 G/B Em7 Am7 G
We've seen how love can grow, now we'll see how it dies.

F E7 Am
If I've got to be strong,
                 Am/G F E7 Am
Don't you know I need to have to-night when you're gone?
                             F
'Till you're gone, I need to hold you,
G/F Dm7 G7
Until the time your hands reach out, and...

Chorus 3:

Dm7 Cadd9 Cmaj7 C7 Fmaj7
Touch me in the mor -ning,
Dm7 Dm/G Cadd9 Cmaj7 C7 Fmaj7
 Then just walk a-way.
Dm7 Dm/G Cadd9 Cmaj7 C7 Fmaj7
 We don't have to-mor -row,
                  Bb Dm7/G
But we had yester-day...

I sing this a full octave lower than Ms. Ross. And I strum in a combo of regular chords and simplified. And I speed it up / jazz it up a bit. My audience* can't get enough! (*my cat)
