IN THE FLOWERS - Animal Collective
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tabbed by: Roy T. (Vaudevillain)
Email: dookie2me@gmail.com
Tuning: Standard (E A G D B e)
Intro: (slight reverb & increasing volume)
e|----------|
B|----6-----|
G|------5---| x 28
D|--7-------|
A|----------|
E|----------|
Then: (slight reverb)
e|---------------------------------------| |---------|
B|----6-----6-----7-----7-----6-----6----| |----7----|
G|------5-----5-----7-----7-----5-----5--| |------7--| x 8
D|--7-----7-----9-----9-----7-----7------| |--9------|
A|---------------------------------------| |---------|
E|---------------------------------------| |---------|
Verse: (slight reverb)
"Met a dancer..."
e|------------------------------------------------------------------|
B|----7-----7-----7-----7-----8-----8-----8-----8-----10-----10-----|
G|------7-----7-----7-----7-----7-----7-----7-----7------7------7---|
D|--9-----9-----9-----9-----9-----9-----9-----9-----9------9--------|
A|------------------------------------------------------------------|
E|------------------------------------------------------------------|
e|-------------------------------------------------------------------------|
B|----10-----10------12-------12-------12-------12-------13-------13-------|
G|-------7------7-------12-------12-------12-------12-------12-------12----|
D|--9------9------14-------14-------14-------14-------14-------14----------|
A|-------------------------------------------------------------------------|
E|-------------------------------------------------------------------------|
e|--------------------------------------------|
B|-----13-------13------8-----8-----8-----8---| After this they just play
G|--------12-------12-----7-----7-----7-----7-| variations on this riff,
D|--14-------14-------9-----9-----9-----9-----| which are easy to figure out
A|--------------------------------------------| once you know these chords.
E|--------------------------------------------|
The next bit is quite hard to make it sound good on a guitar, but use a lot of reverb
a bit of distortion.
Epic explosion at 2:30 :
"Then we could be dancing..."
Follow the rhythm with these chords:
e|---------------------|
B|---6----8---13---6---|
G|---5----7---12---5---|
D|---7----9---14---7---|
A|---8---10---15---8---|
E|---------------------|
Then for the next part:
"To hold you in time..."
e|-----------|
B|---8---6---|
G|---7---5---|
D|---9---7---|
A|--10---8---|
E|-----------|
After return to the verse part. This should give you the key parts to the song.
Honestly, I think this is the best Animal Collective song ever, except maybe "Purple Bottle".
It's definitely their best on "Merriweather Post Pavillion". Buy it, it's worth every
penny.

Very good tab. I found it easier to play
e|---------------------|
B|---6----8---13---6---|
G|---5----7---12---5---|
D|---7----9---14---7---|
A|---8---10---15---8---|
E|---------------------|
e|---1----3---8----1---|
B|---1----3---8----1---|
G|---2----4---9----2---|
D|---3----5---10---3---|
A|---------------------|
E|---------------------|
instead; it's the same notes but just a more natural hand position for me, and easier if you're using a guitar without a cut-away.

Great tab. I play with a capo on 5, gives your hands a bit of a rest. I have rather small hands so the shapes you listed for 2:30 on are a bit tough for me; playing with a capo on 5 and just sliding C shapes from 8 (3 relative) to 10 (5 relative) to 15 (10 relative) makes it easier. Won't sound the same, because leaving the G string open gives it a suspension, but it sounds fine all the same.
