In his teens he taught himself to play the guitar, and
chose to dedicate himself to the study and advancement
of the instrument. His guitar performances were so
popular in Naples, that he confidently began touring
Europe. After a highly successful tour to Paris, he
decided to make the French capital his home in 1809.
Carulli strived to introduce the guitar to the
upper-classes of Paris, and was successful as a
teacher. Carulli contributed to the development of
guitar design through his partnership with the famous
french luthier Rene Lacote.
