Based on an English Handkerchief dance tune, Grainger began this version in 1908, then wrote it all down in 1918 while he was in the US Army, stationed at Fort Jay in New York. Grainger clearly had fun doing this arrangement, and played it many times. I’ve tried to retain the boundless energy of the original. The tempo is in the original score–a little faster than we normally hear it.
