The accompaniment consists of the two main themes of the work, John's Song and Ruth's Song. The anthem is sung as a "backdrop" to the wedding of Lorna Doone and John Ridd. The musical "Lorna Doone" was premiered at the 1983 Edinburgh Festival Fringe. The anthem has been performed in several versions,as solo, duet and chorus piece. It has proved to be popular at weddings. This 3-part version was arranged for Breadsall Parish Church.
