YT fills a great need in Orff classrooms--opportunities for intermediate grade students to extend their individual musicianship from basic, whole class activities, to individual creativity. To reach this goal, most of the 26 units in YT begin with a short, simple core activity (song, jump rope rhyme, poem) that can be easily learned. Next, students are given choices to expand the arrangement through one or more of six avenues (speech, gesture, movement, improvisation, tone color, form). Students create their own final product with as much individuality as they choose.
