Text from a Polish folk carol.

An intimate arrangement of this favorite Polish carol, with rich inner voices and poignant suspensions. The traditional English lyrics are followed by an additional verse, which speaks to the blessing which arrives with all births, in all times. A Yuletide delight for women's or advanced children's choirs.

Text: Infant holy, infant lowly, For his bed a cattle stall. Oxen lowing, Little knowing, Christ the babe is Lord of all. Swift are winging, angels singing, Noels ringing, Tidings bringing, Christ the babe is Lord of all. Flocks were sleeping, Shepherds keeping Vigil 'til the morning new. Saw the glory, Heard the story Tidings of a gospels true. Thus rejoicing, Free from sorrow, Praises voicing, Greet the morrow, Christ the babe was born for you. Poor and wealthy, Sick and healthy, Babes are born each day and night. In a stable like the fable, Or on bedding clean and bright. New hearts beating, Old hearts warming, Blessed greeting all-transforming, Every birth brings love's pure light. Verse 3 copyright 2000 by Elizabeth Alexander.
