Navigation etc.

  • According to the Elgar Society, this incidental music was "to accompany a play by the far lesser known playwright Bertram P. Matthews. His play, Beau Brummel, was staged at the Theatre Royal, Birmingham in November 1928, with Elgar conducting the orchestra on the first night. The score remained unpublished with the exception of the minuet which alone has outlived the play." [Update - see above]. The scoring for the Minuet, originally published by Elkin, is 2 flutes, 2 oboes, 2 clarinet, 2 bassoons, 2 horns, 2 trumpets, 3 trombones, timpani, percussion, and strings. Since the score for the incidental music as a whole has remained unpublished, it is not known whether this is the scoring of the entire work.
