Several sources (e.g. the ones quoted, and including the composer's own letters, I think!) have the premiere as having taken place at the Inaugural Concert of the music society Triton in Paris, played by Dushkin and Soetens, on 16 December 1932. From where is the November 27 1932 performance derived? - Schissel (possibly from the Prokofiev.org link which no longer exists, I know... ok, I'd have to ask where they got their information, I suppose. David Nice writes (Prokofiev - A Biography: From Russia to the West, 1891-1935, p.303) that the sonata's Moscow premiere - that is, its first performance in Moscow- was given by Tsyganov and Shirinsky. I suspect the date above, or the date I have for the concert at which Dushkin and Soetens premiered the work in Paris, is wrong.)

Ah. "Triton was beaten to the punch, however – by three weeks – when the Sonata was played, with the composer’s permission, in Moscow by Dmitri Tziganov and Vassily Shirinsky, the violinists of the Beethoven String Quartet, later to become closely associated with Shostakovich. How Triton responded to having only the “Western premiere” is not a matter of record."
