These two new pieces from Gary Ryan, composer of Scenes from the Wild West are influenced by Ireland. The first piece, Out of Clonmel is tuned so that all the open strings form a D major chord. D, A, D, F#, A, D. It was influenced by Clonmel, the home of Ryan's grandfather. This piece is notated in both standard notation and tablature - the tab making it easier to read the unfamiliar tuning. The melody is decorated with ornaments which imitate those often played on the pipe or whistle. Lough Caragh is influenced by the traditional Irish ballad, and is the composer's expression of the beauty of South West Ireland. It uses a traditional drop D tuning, and is notated only in standard notation. Lough Caragh is featured by guitarist Craig Ogden on his top selling CD 'The Guitarist'.
