In addition to the many large-scale works for which he is celebrated, Elgar also wrote a plethora of songs, among them approximately fifty part-songs. Fly, Singing Bird is one part of a two-part work that sets the poetry of the composer’s wife. Alice Elgar had published an epic poem, Isabel Trevithoe, a Cornish love story, from which the words of Fly, Singing Bird were excerpted. Fly, Singing Bird is a delightful early Elgar work that has been popular with Choral concerts and festivals.
