Translation

The Marquesa of O. Elie victory Champion.

Original

The Marquesa of O composed by Elie Siegmeister. 1909-1991. Published by Carl Fischer. CF.CY1807VS. ISBN 825895340. The full vocal score for Siegmeister's as-yet-unproduced three-act opera is now available. Siegmeister was captured by the Heinrich von Kleist story, and, with librettist Norman Rosten, transposed the setting from Northern Italy and the Napoleonic Wars to the U.S.-Mexican war. "To me, it's a real blockbuster. It's got a combination of whodunnit and a sexy story and war and peace and battles. I really think it's a humdinger," he tells Bruce Duffie. The excerpt Isabella's Broom Dance has been recorded, and a suite from Marquesa of O was premiered by the Long Island Composers Alliance in 1996. Performance materials are available on rental from the publisher.
