Of Gentle Spirit. William Owens. Beginning.

Original

Of Gentle Spirit composed by William Owens. 1963-. For concert band. Concert Band. FJH Beginning Band. Grade 1. Score and set of parts. Duration 2 minutes, 51 seconds. Published by The FJH Music Company Inc. FJ.B1277. This emotional new work promises to be an excellent study in phrasing and dynamics. From the tender opening to the glorious key change and climax, the beautiful themes will take your audience through an array of emotions. Interesting harmonies and countermelodies make this a unique and colorful work at this grade level. Highly recommended. In the beginning, clarinets should play full with good airflow and firm embouchures. Accompanying parts should be connected and delicately tongued. When breathing, students must always take in plenty of air. Long sounds require lots of support. Whenever eighth notes occur, do not allow fingers to be slow - be accurate and assertive. In the forte section at measure 41, continue to play beautifully connected tones with great airflow. Work hard to achieve the piano in measure 47 and the crescendo in measure 48 for a glorious musical effect. Appropriate within the first year of instruction and beginning of the second year. Clarinets do not go above the break, and there is limited use of accidentals. Plenty of doublings in the lower voices. Grade 1.
