The beginning tempo marking of Espressivo is intended to convey a feeling of rubato throughout, but not overly so. The fortes should never be thunderous, but the pianos should be exquisite, with the final amen eliciting a sense of renewed beginning rather than a final ending. Duration 2. 45.
