Shades of Majesty composed by Jeff Smallman. For Wind Ensemble. Piccolo, 2 Flutes, Oboe, Bassoon, 3 Bb Clarinet, B Clarinet, 2 Alto Saxophones, Tenor Saxophone, Baritone Saxophone, 3 Trumpets, 4 Horns, 3 Trombones, Euphonium, Tuba, Timpani, Percussion. Grade 3.5. Score and parts. Composed 2005. 76 pages. Duration 5. 20. Published by Lighthouse Music Publications. LH.LMP-B0501S-P. Written as a work to honour former conductors Martin Boundy and Frank Barrett, this work begins and ends with a bang. A series of staccato chords leads to a frenzied line in the flute section accompanied by repeated chords in the French horns. Meter changes and lively melody provide a festive atmosphere. The middle section melody is given to the French horns in a chorale reminiscent of Wagner or Strauss. A moment of discord gives way to a recap of the opening section.
