Original

Toccata, Adagio & Fugue. 2001. for solo organ composed by Thomas Oboe Lee. For Organ. Baroque Period, Classical Period, Romantic Period, 20th Century, 21st Century. Advanced. Score. Published by Thomas Oboe Lee. S0.9903. "Program note. My boss, T. Frank Kennedy, S.J., is a frequent visitor to Nantucket. So when he invited my wife, Kris, and me for a visit last summer we jumped at the chance. We were there for three days. We ate, we drank, we went all over the island. It was a beautiful place to visit. We stayed at the Parish House and had the pleasure of meeting the parish priest, Rev. Paul Caron. I soon found out that his church, Saint Mary's Church, was about to receive a brand new organ commissioned from the organ builder, Michael Bigelow, of Salt Lake City, and that James David Christie had been invited to give an inaugural concert to celebrate the new instrument. I suggested that I would be very interested in writing a new work for the occasion. Father Caron agreed to commission me. In my search for inspiration I went straight to J.S. Bach. I recently purchased a boxed set of 17 CD's of works for solo organ by Bach, and I was immediately attracted to his ""Toccata, Adagio & Fugue in C Major, BWV 564. "" So I decided to write my very own ""TAF."" There isn't much to say about mine. The first movement is toccata-like. The second movement is slow. like an adagio. And the third is a fugue, as prescribed by the doctor. If there were any divergence between my TAF and Bach's, I would say it is in the higher degree of chromaticism in my work. Otherwise, the piece pays homage to ""old Bach,"" the superior artist. Digital Print is printable sheet music available anytime, anywhere. Just purchase, print and play.
