Valses 2 composed by De Larrocha Granados. For Piano. Published by Editorial de Musica Boileau. BO.B.3316. ISBN 84-8020-690-X. English comments. Works in dance forms, especially waltzes, must have formed an important part of the young Granados' repertoire during the period when he worked as a cafe-pianist in Barcelona. Given his well-documented skill in improvisation, Granados probably improvised all or most of the music he played in these cafes, rather than performing finished compositions. If he did in fact play his own composed works, he would have been more likely to have played waltzes such as La sirena or Carezza rather than sophisticated and complex compositions such as Cartas de amor or Valses poeticos. In these works Granados achieved a stylisation of the waltz-form which is imbued with his own highly personal musical idiom. Granados' waltzes reveal many facets of his connection to the Romantic period since they are closely related to the 19th Century Romantic ideal of the waltz as exemplified by those of Schubert and Chopin, rather than being inspired by Spanish popular themes. It is impossible to know the specific dates of composition of Granados' waltzes since, with the exception of Cuatro Notas. Four Notes. , dated 1888, and Valse de concert. Concert Waltz. , published in 1914, none of the sources are dated. However, it is virtually certain that all the waltzes were composed prior to 1900.

The second dance pieces written forms, especially waltzes, formed a large part of the works which the young Granados played in his time pianist coffee in Barcelona. Given the quality of their highly praised improvisations repentizara we probably all or most of the music that played in the cafes rather touching compositions completed. It is therefore possible that Granados had offered works mood of Mermaid or Carezza instead of as sophisticated parts and considerable technical difficulty as love letters or poetic Waltzes, where the author achieving stylistic genre transforming them into works own inspiration. Granados waltzes reveal different aspects of the Romantic movement entailment. Just contain traits of popular Spanish Thematic but highlight the influence exerted on the author composers like Schubert or Chopin. It is not possible to know with certainty the date of composition of the waltzes because the sources that have been extracted, except for Four notes. 1888. and Valse de concert, published in 1914, have no such indications, but presumably they were all written before 1900.
