Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis. Robert J Powell. Voice sheet music. Choir sheet music. Organ Accompaniment sheet music. Beginning.

Original

Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis composed by Robert J Powell. For treble voices. children or women. , organ. Parish. Choral, Children, Evensong. Easy. Medium. Choral octavo. Published by Paraclete Press. PL.0407. If one is looking for a vital setting of the Evensong canticles to introduce to young voices, this wonderful piece would be the perfect choice. Powell has recently retired from his long-time church music position and has made significant contributions to sacred music composition. This setting of the Magnificat is set primarily in unison with lovely two and three part writing in key places. It is reminiscent of the great early 20th century Magnificat settings in its flow and melodiousness. Powell alternates between G major and its parallel natural minor to illuminate the text. The Nunc Dimittis is set mainly for 2 voices and the writing soars at the text, "and to be the glory of thy people ". Both youth and adult choirs will find this a particularly gratifying setting of this Evensong text.
