Quiet Steps. Erik Morales. Grade 2.

Original

Quiet Steps composed by Erik Morales. For jazz band. Jazz Band. FJH Developing Jazz Ensemble. Score only. Full set. score and parts. also available. JE4143. Grade 2. Score only. Duration 3 minutes, 20 seconds. Published by The FJH Music Company Inc. FJ.JE4143S. Although the title is similar to John Coltrane's Giant Steps, this composition bears no similarities. Coltrane's work is only used here as inspiration. Quiet Steps is, however, a simple ballad with a fairly complex chord structure. The key signature is not indicative of the tonal center. One could argue that the work's key signature should be C major, as this is the chord the main melody begins and ends with. However, if placed in the key of C, the piece would be much harder to read, as it contains numerous tonal deviations. The general feel of the work should be interpreted as a light, slow swing. Ideal for middle school jazz ensembles and smaller high school programs. Playable with as few as 4 saxes, 3 trumpets, 2 trombones, and rhythm section. Written solos are provided along with suggested parts for rhythm section and drum set. Guitar chord guide included. Grades 2 - 2.5.
