Born into a poor Native American family, Rosas learned to play the violin and began to compose as a young boy. After moving to Mexico City, he became a well-known musician while still a teenager. Written in a classical Viennese waltz style, Over the Waves became a hit in Mexico, the United States, Europe, and elsewhere. Slightly more advanced than Beginning Strings, this series begins to involve more position work and a slightly more complex rhythmic figures. Rehearsal piano is often provided.
