Original

The Star Spangled Banner composed by John Stafford Smith. Arranged by Kristine Johanek. For Piano, Voice, Handbell Choir, Choir - other voicings. Secular. Early Intermediate. Score. Published by Kristine Johanek. S0.23420. "This version of The Star Spangled Banner is written for two octave bells. handbells, hand chimes or tone chimes. with piano accompaniment and vocal melody line that can be sung by unison chorus or vocal soloist. Although The Star Spangled Banner is usually written in the key of Ab, this version is written in the key of G, so it is a half step lower. This puts it in a good range for an alto or baritone soloist. Not quite as ideal for a children's choir. The bell part uses 18 bells from a standard two octave set, and plays a chordal descant part over the soloist. The piano part mirrors the melody line, while adding a few tasteful flourishes. This would be an excellent way to feature a soloist or choir with your bell players, or even invite audience participation. 2014 marks the 200th anniversary of the writing of the poem, ""Defence of Fort M'Henry"" which, when set to the tune ""To Anacreon in Heaven,"" eventually became our national anthem.
