Based on a basic blues line, Rhythm 'n' Blues introduces students to more complicated rhythms with a strictly percussion-only section that uses claps, snaps, and stomps. These percussive effects may be substituted with any kind of creative technique, such as shouts, taps, or clucks with the tongue. The piece may be performed with straight eighth notes, or in a swing style for more advanced groups. Overall, play with confidence, and dig into the string without being too legato. Appropriate for first year string students. All instruments stay in first position, and optional third violin. viola. parts and piano are included to aid in rehearsal and performance situations.
