The opening, with it's unison semiquaver passages alternating with dissonant major seventh chords, has almost the feeling of a baroque concerto grosso about it, albeit with a very modern harmonic palette. These sections alternate with slower passages featuring lush harmonies and sinuous, flowing lines. The end is a flourish of semiquavers followed by a staggering series of jazz tinged chord that push all the instruments up to the top of their registers. even the alto and bass flutes.
