Original

Where's Hector, a Jazz piano solo from Modern Solos composed by Michael Bomier. For Piano. Jazz, Repertoire, Secular. Advanced Intermediate. Sheet Music Single. Michael Bomier #GEWHMS. Published by Michael Bomier. S0.5999. " One of the more famous chord progressions in jazz comes from a composition by saxophonist John Coltrane called ""Giant Steps"". It is so named because the roots of the chords proceed in an unusual pattern of Major thirds. That piece uses IIm7-V7-I Maj7 progressions in three keys at once, Eb, G and B. Those roots, when put together, from an augmented triad. This is the kind of sequential device that jazz composers have used more and more since Coltrane's time. The piece here uses a similar set of chords, but the II-V-I's alternate between the major and minor keys. A simple melody, with appropriate chords underneath, in the right hand, is woven through this chord sequence. A walking left-hand bassline keeps things moving throughout. Approx duration 1 min 15 secs, optional repeat if you feel so inclined. Pedal as little as possible, to maintain clarity of the bassline. Tap it once in awhile to negotiate the right-hand harmony.
