The Dreaded Groove and Hook. Simon Dobson.

Original

The Dreaded Groove and Hook composed by Simon Dobson. 1981-. Concert Band. For Brass Band. Brass Band. Score. Faber Edition. Faber Brass Band Series. 20th Century. Masterwork. Published by Faber Music. AP.12-0571570011. ISBN 0571570011. 20th Century. Masterwork. Simon Dobson's The Dreaded Groove and Hook, is an up tempo acid--jazz work for brass band, drawing its influences from bands such as Jamiroquai and The Youngblood Brass Band. The groove in question is the main tune that is shared around the band soloists and accompanied by 'Stuart Zendor--esque' bass lines, whilst the hook, in pop terms, is the catchy bit of the song. This happens when the whole band join to play a huge 'riff' that acts as a kind of chorus to the jazz like verses. Percussion and soloists alike will have plenty to do in this piece. The piece was commissioned by Jason Katsikaris and The Leyland Band, who gave the first performance as part of their program for the Brass In Concert Championships in November 2008. This title was performed at the 2011 Midwest Clinic, the largest band and choral educational conference in the United States. Over thirty performances are given each year by diverse ensembles of varying levels - elementary school, high school, college, military and more. Each performance title is carefully selected and represents the very best in educational sheet music. The Midwest Clinic aims to raise the standards of music education while supporting teachers and music educators.
