We Hold These Truths. A Patriotic Trilogy. Composed by John Purifoy. For SATB choir. with optional narrator. Cantatas. Patriotic, Sacred. Choral octavo. Published by Purifoy Publishing Company. LO.479-23234. When I was asked by Don Townsend and the Knoxville Community Chorus to composer a patriotic work for their organization, I asked myself an important question. What is true patriotism. To find the answer, I began reading the words of men and women like Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, John F Kennedy, Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt and many others. I discovered in these great Americans that their love of country was often accompanied by deep sacrifices made on behalf of a dream for a better nation and a safer world. We cannot fully comprehend their words because we did not share the struggles they endured in order for their vision to come true. We can, however, preserve the memory of their wisdom and deeds. Lincoln once called America "The world's best hope. " These three statesmen represent voices in each century of America's existence on this planet. May we and future generations cherish their memory and preserve their ideals so that these truths will never be forgotten. America The Beautiful Peace On Earth. We Hold These Truths. New Birth Of Freedom Reprise. New Birth Of Freedom.
