The Flight of the Bumble Bee. Nikolay Andreyevich Rimsky-Korsakov. Grade 4.

Original

The Flight of the Bumble Bee composed by Nikolay Andreyevich Rimsky-Korsakov. 1844-1908. Arranged by Andrew Glover. Concert band. Command Series. Audio recording available separately. item CL.WFR334. Grade 4. Extra full score. Composed 2005. Duration 1 minute, 20 seconds. Published by C.L. Barnhouse. CL.012-3404-01. This famous orchestral work from the Russian master Rimsky-Korsakov is now available in this ingenious arrangement for concert band. While previous band transcriptions of this work have long been the nemesis of clarinet sections, this arrangement cleverly dovetails moving lines between clarinets, flutes, and alto saxophones, making the technical aspects of this piece accessible to better high school bands. Not simplified, but through clever scoring this work comes within reach of maturing bands. Well worth the effort. The Barnhouse Command Series includes works at grade levels 2, 2.5, and 3. This series is designed for middle school and junior high school bands, as well as high school bands of smaller instrumentation or limited experience. Command Series publications have a slightly larger instrumentation than the Rising Band Series, and are typically of larger scope, duration, and musical content.
