Whisper Not by Quincy Jones. Edited by Jeffrey Sultanof. Arranged by Al Cohn. For big band. 2 Alto Saxophones, 2 Tenor Saxophones, Baritone Saxophone, 4 Trumpets, 4 Trombones, Guitar, Piano, Bass, Drums. Swing. Medium. Score and parts. Published by Jazz Lines Publications. JL.JLP-8195. This Al Cohn arrangement was written for Quincy Jones in 1959 and recorded for his album 'The Birth of a Band. ' Cohn's original arrangement was written to feature a B flat soloist. possibly Benny Golson, who was in Quincy's band. but it was modified in the studio so that the melody is played both within and across sections throughout the chart. We have kept these changes but left Al's original shout chorus as-written. The chart features a trumpet duet as well as a tenor-trumpet duet. There are no saxophone doubles.
