Original

Sonata for Solo Cello composed by N. Williams. For Cello. Romantic Period, 20th Century, 21st Century. Advanced Intermediate. Score. N. Williams #004. Published by N. Williams. S0.7026. "Sonata for Solo Cello in g minor. 3 movements. Grave-Allegro-Grave, Intermezzo. Andante Cantabile. , Allegro Leggiero. Performance lasts about 16-18 minutes. 7 pages. The piece begins with an unresolved grave theme in g minor, and develops into a more intense section in c minor. The second theme is introduced, and the tempo begins to build, until it reaches a terrifying D Major climax, and then is finally resolved in G Major. The original theme returns in e minor. The Intermezzo was written with the intention of being ""between"" the keys of e minor and G Major. A lyrical, arpeggiated melody in e minor develops into a gentle theme in G Major. It returns suddenly to a much more abrupt passage in e minor, with the original theme returning briefly. It develops again into the second theme, which is finally resolved clearly in G Major. The Allegro Leggiero is the most technically demanding of the sonata. The g minor theme is reminiscent of the second theme of the first movement. Eventually, the theme gives way to a cantabile section in E-flat Major, similar to the c minor sections of the first movement. The g minor theme returns briefly, but is more condensed and intense. It reaches a climax at a G three octaves above the G-String, then stops. After a suspenseful pause, the original grave theme returns, this time resolved clearly in g minor. The sonata ends with this disappearing theme. Digital Print is printable sheet music available anytime, anywhere. Just purchase, print and play.
