Miserere mei Deus composed by Joy DeCoursey-Porter. For Piano,Voice,Choir,SATB. Classical Period,Christian,Sacred. Intermediate. Published by Joy DeCoursey-Porter. S0.34787. Sacred, matters of the heart Miserere mei Deus is taken from Psalm 51. Israel's King David wrote this Psalm in response to being confronted with his own sin. David had sent a man to the front of battle to die in order to have this man's wife as his own. David's plea for mercy turns to the resolve to bear the Lord's punishment and be washed clean by God's abundant mercy. His mourning turns to joy at the thought of God's cleansing power. The piece begins in mourning and ends with peace and triumph. The piece was spotlighted on ChoralNet in March of 2014. The write up was as follows. "With an emotional hint of Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata mixed with Bach’s Well Tempered Klavier, the simple accompaniment allows Miserere mei Deus to grow expressively from beginning to end. The text is beautiful, reflective and well set. Whether performed for a worshiping congregation or a concert audience your target listeners will feel the gently growing power of this exquisite piece.
