March composed by Justus Weinreich. Arranged by Jacob Litoff. For 4 violas. Romantic Period. Early Intermediate. Score. Published by Jacob Litoff. S0.9587. " Justus Weinreich, now known only to a few enthusiasts and scholars, left a small output of arch-romantic chamber music, partly with a didactic flair. These include suites for solo viola, a Serenade in D for violin and viola, 2 string quartets, and this piece that was originally one of four short pieces composed for 4 violins, and it has been arranged for 4 violas. Justus Otto Weinreich was born in Kassel on May 24, 1858. He probably received his first lessons from his father Johann Georg Weinreich, an oboist serving in the Elector's personal bodyguard regiment. After 1873, Justus worked as second violin in Kassel's court theatre orchestra. Years of traveling followed. From 1876 to 1878 we find him as 1st violin in Bonn. In 1879. 80 in Konigsberg. Weinreich was then drawn to Baden-Baden. At the beginning of 1883 he joined the Karlsruhe court orchestra as a viola player, rising in 1885 to court musician, in 1893 to 3rd solo viola, and in 1914 to chamber musician. Shortsight and a chronic neuralgic complaint forced him to quit his post in 1917. He returned to Baden-Baden where he died on January 19, 1927. Weinreich's ""Vier Stucke fur 4 violinen,. in der ersten lage. "". in first position. , were published in 1898 by Johann Andre in Offenbach. in parts only. They are dedicated to the ""Allgemeinen Musikbildungs-Anstalt"" in Karlsruhe, which suggests that the composer was greatly interested in educational questions, and possibly taught at this establishment himself. The four pieces. March, Menuett, Intermezzo, and Gavotte und Musette. are an ideal introduction to soloistic or massed ensemble playing. This piece here is the March, the first of those four, arranged for four violas. Digital Print is printable sheet music available anytime, anywhere. Just purchase, print and play.
