Original

Brass Prelude 3 composed by Music C. C. Converse. lyrics Joseph Scriven. Arranged by Michael E. Ropp. For Trumpet, Trombone, Tuba, Horn in F, Brass Quintet. Spiritual, Sacred, Dixieland. Intermediate. Score, Set of Parts. Published by Michael E. Ropp. S0.26176. "Brass Prelude 3 was designed to be used on those Sunday mornings when a brass quintet is available for the choir anthem, and it is desired to make maximum use of the quintet. Brass Prelude 3 is a Dixieland arrangement of the familiar hymn, ""What A Friend We Have In Jesus"", and is designed to provide a joyous and surprising start to a worship service. probably one containing other ""surprises"" from the choir or others. This prelude is clearly Dixieland, but somewhat muted, so that it meets the need of centering the worshipers before the service. There is a corresponding Brass Postlude 3 that goes with this Prelude, and Postlude 3 is the same hymn but with the rousing Dixieland exuberance ratcheted up several levels. Like all of the Preludes in this series, it is designed to start worship on an uplifting note. This piece is not difficult, but it does require a piccolo trumpet in A and a player who is familiar enough with the style to make it sound like a clarinet.
