Apokrypha. score . Marimba sheet music. Soprano Saxophone sheet music. Intermediate.

Original

Apokrypha. score & parts. composed by James Fusik. Chamber Ensemble. For Soprano Saxophone & Marimba. B-flat soprano saxophone, marimba. 5-octave. Medium. Score & parts. Duration 13. 30. Published by C. Alan Publications. CN.14280. Although challenging, Apokrypha is a very rewarding enterprise for the performers, showcasing the collaboration of saxophone and percussion, whose musical possibilities are truly endless. Apokrypha is a two-movement work that explores the unique and exciting timbral and emotive capabilities of both soprano saxophone and marimba. The title refers to a book or text that was deemed unsuitable for inclusion in the canon of the Bible, whose subject matted usually dealt with the end of the world. In the work, saxophone and marimba are treated as equal melodic partners and often interject, trading melodies and combining to form a unique color palette. Each movement title is taken from the original conception of the piece, programmatic, which was abandoned as the composition progressed. Subsequently, no programme is included here. Prison is a virtuosic showpiece for both players, utilizing extended techniques and exploring the coloristic similarities of sax and marimba. End of Days is set in a grand arch form with extended coda, flowing through sections of desolation, bravura, and ultimately renewal and peace. The piece was inspired to meet the high demand and interest that all serious percussionists and saxophonists have in common for quality contemporary literature. Although challenging, Apokrypha is a very rewarding enterprise for the performers, showcasing the collaboration of saxophone and percussion, whose musical possibilities are truly endless.
