Feasts of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Hymns in praise of the Virgin Mary. Ferdinand Schubert liked the Salve Regina in F. 1815. so much that he asked his brother Franz to compose wind parts for it. The piece was published in 1825 in Vienna by Diabelli with winds instruments under the title "Zweytes Offertorium" and in 1888 it was included in this version in the old Schubert edition as well as in all other editions published since then. The new Carus includes both versions and it is printed so they may be compared. This offers smaller ensembles an alternative to perform the work "without winds" and this version also has the added charm of being the original.
