Toward A New Life composed by Joseph Suk. William Guegold. For Concert Band. Grade 4. Score. Published by Great Works Publishing. LG.20105336. Written in 1920 by the Czech composer Josef Suk. 1874-1935. , this march became one of his country's most popular symphonic marches. It won an award for the composer at the 1932 Olympics in Los Angeles. In contrast to the more familiar English and American marches, the style of this work finds its roots in the folk music of Czechoslovakia and is more festive in nature. Opening with a unique fanfare using antiphonal trumpet choirs, William Guegold has done a marvelous job of maintaining the original character of this famous march in his transcription for band.
