This was completed in April 1987, slightly revised for publication in 1994 witha few further revisions made for recording by the Lochrian Ensemble in 2007. The four movements follow the Classical pattern. the first movement,Sostenuto - allegro is followedby a scherzo. allegro molto, in 7. , an adagio. also in 7. and a finale. allegro molto. The balanceof the movements, however, differs in that the first and last movements areconcertante movements for cello and first violin respectively. the argument of the third movement is largely made up of a "loveduet" between the second violin and the viola, where the other two instruments have a mainly accompanyingrôle, and only the scherzo has an equal balance between the forces.
