Beginning with Dong Dong. Merrily on High in fanfare fashion supported by rich harmonies and a variety of percussion, the music changes moods and yields to the beautiful and haunting Silent Night. A playful version of Jingle Bells moves seemlessly into a spirited version of The Wassail Song in which the entire band soon depicts a festive holiday parade complete with roll-offs and police whistles. A woodwind chorale then introduces We Wish You a Merry Christmas before the entire piece explodes into a rivetting jazz waltz to bring down the house. Stunning. After the parade, We Wish You a Merry Christmas is introduced by a lovely woodwind chorale that quickly blossoms into an upbeat jazz waltz. Trumpets and saxophones are showcased in this razzle-dazzle setting that fittingly brings the work to a grand and happy finish. Designed for high school groups and upper-level middle school groups.
