The editors have prepared this collection of instrumental parts as a supplement to the choirbook Bach for All Seasons in the hope of offering a wider variety of options for the performance of some of these works. In addition, the hope is to make these parts readily available to those who might not have the complete works in their libraries or who don't have music libraries at their disposal. These works were, of course, intended to be performed with ensemble accompaniment, not keyboard alone. While the keyboard alone is certainly an acceptable substitute, the performance may be enhanced by the inclusion of obbligato instruments on ritornello melody lines, and cello and. or bassoon on the bass line. Directors are encouraged to be flexible in their choice of instruments. Flute, oboe, violin or trumpet may be some of the choices, depending on the character of the piece. Parts are included for.
