LH.LMP-OR1101S-P. Funeraillesis the seventh, and most well-known, of Liszt's Harmonies Poetiques et Religieusesfor solo piano. Written in response to the defeat of the 1848 Hungarian Revolution, this work is filled with a dark, mournful atmosphere which is punctuated by moments of sombre heroism. Serge Ollive has orchestrated this work, making it suitable for performance by chamber orchestras. This arrangement is intended to create an entirely new colour for the musical content of the original work. The doubling of each string part. except the double bass. allows for multiple combinations in the arrangement and use of string colours.
