Taking its cues from this simple but inspired poetry, the piece alternates between duple and triple meters, with light waltzing sections, a Latin dance, and finally a grand valse. Three lyrical melodies are woven together throughout the piece. they are sung separately, in pairs, and all together at the end. In between, a sprightly theme in minor mode appears, accompanied by syncopated rhythms in the piano and flute. All in all, fun to sing, and delightful to hear.
